What They Don't Tell You About Fashion Blogging...

Last weekend, we Fash Mashers got together to shoot some new looks for the blog (and to catch up and gossip, of course). We met up at Tara's apartment and decided to artfully arrange some of our jewellery and makeup for those fancy "composition" shots that you see all over Instagram.

Yes, people really spend time thinking about how to lay things out in a creative way! Hey, don't judge, we think it looks cool...

After channelling our inner 2nd grade artsy selves, Sumati tested out some natural daytime looks for Tara and Diane to get us ready for the shoot. Look at the amazing colors on this Sephora palette!

Don't be afraid to experiment with bold shades, but of course, choose one area of focus, i.e. either play up the lips or eyes. For summer, we love golden eyeshadow for a more neutral look, but if you're feeling daring, we tried out a look that involved light green eyeshadow all over the lids, yellow in the crease, and purple in the outer corner. Very cool!

It was all fun and games, until we realized it was almost 3pm and none of us had eaten lunch! Never shoot on an empty stomach, we say, so we headed out to May Veggie Home, one of our favorite vegetarian restaurants to grab a quick bite.

Finally it was time to get our posing (but not really posing) on, so we decided to brave Bangkok's chaotic streets to find a good shooting location and also to help us digest our yummy lunch.

Boy, oh boy, if you've ever been trapped in a sauna while a dragon breathes fires on you, that's basically what we experienced walking through Bangkok's unforgiving heat. The things you go through to get a good picture sometimes...

About 30 minutes and gallons upon sweat later, we stumbled upon some cool graffiti and a parking lot which we thought were good locations. However, raindrops also decided to stumble upon us at the same time, so it was time to take cover with our camera equipment, makeup tools, and god forbid, to ensure our hair wouldn't get frizzy.

When the rain finally eased up, we pulled ourselves together, got our best smize on, posed with onlookers watching us, and cars/motorcycles photobombing us. It was a manic day, and probably the less glamorous side of fashion blogging that rarely gets talked about.

But we think we managed to do OK, wouldn't you say?

Bangkok City Chicks

Getting dressed for Bangkok's brutal heat can be a complex process. When you're standing in your room with the AC on full blast, you may think it's a great idea to finally test out this "layering" thing that all the fashionistas do in chic cities around the world. But the second you step outside, the sun will laugh in your whitening-cream-covered face, making you wish it was socially acceptable to strip down to your undies. However, there are still some things you can do to appear trendy in this heat. Here's how we stay cool whether spending Saturday brunching, going out shopping, or hitting the town at night.

Diane: Dress from Heda at Terminal 21, Shoes from Jelly Bunny, Bag from Zalora, Jewelry from China Town and Swarovski.

Sumati: Dress from Not Just A Pretty Face, Schutz shoes, Chanel bag, custom-made ring from Delora.

Tara: Mesh detail bodysuit by Nun Bangkok with denim cutoffs from Chatuchak, and my GAP jean jacket I'll never ever part with (it's almost 20 years old!).

Weekend Mash-Up

If things went our way, we'd be hanging out with each other all the time. But being the 3 different ladies that we are, of course we do our own thang from time to time!  This is what we got up to last weekend, and here's what we wore...

Sumati: Last weekend I had to put the heels away to do some niece/nephew-sitting. Since society might frown upon me wearing my torn pajamas in public, I opted for some comfy BF jeans and sneakers to keep up with a 4- and 8-year-old. You can tell I'm not a mom yet since I also wore white... not a smart idea when there are markers and snot involved!

Sumati: I'm wearing a Jaspal shirt, BF jeans from 7 For All Mankind and my trusty Converse.

Diane: I was having a nice brunch at Karma Kamet  before I went to a photo shoot that day. Cause I have to move around a lot on set, I always like to keep it comfy with a dash of funkiness!

Diane: Again I wore a shirt stolen from my mama, Skort from Dress Bistro, Shoes from Jelly Bunny, Necklace from H&M, Sunglass are Wayfarer from Ray Ban

Tara: My weekend wear is pretty similar ot my Monday-Friday look, thanks to a creative work environment. This weekend I threw on my favorite painter's overalls from the Vintage Train Market for an ecru ensemble to explore Central Embassy.

Tara: I'm wearing vintage Dickie's overalls and cotton crop top from the Vintage Train Market in Srinakarin, shoes and backpack from Asos and seahorse earring from Keylime Jewelry.

Do Me A Solid

Fash Mashers can't get enough of this look. A solid color head to toe cuts out at least 15 min of mixing and matching wardrobe dilemmas and ends up looking effortlessly chic. Check out our different intepretations of the trend. How would you rock this style?

Xoxo,
The Fash Mash

Tara: Can you tell I'm loving navy blue right now?? This navy top and skirt aren't quiiiite the same shade of blue but I've never been a big believer in the fashion rules or do's and don't's. I topped it off with yet another shade of navy shoe.

Tara: I'm wearing a top from H&M, lace skirt by Vickteerut, shoes from Footwork and Lennon style sunglasses purchased streetside at Khao Sarn Road.

Sumati: I've never been a big fan of matchy-matchy looks so I decided to combine girly, edgy and sporty into one. The ruffled halter top looks more rock 'n' roll paired with (faux) leather tights, proving that black is still the new black. And you can never go wrong with Converse. That is a fact.

Sumati: I'm wearing a top from Pookie & Sebastian, faux leather tights from Pomelo, and Converse sneakers.

Diane: I'm a big lover of lace and beige. So this light, effortlessly girly dress screamed my name! Worn with a pair of shoes that are similar in tone and I'm ready to go run errands and meet my friends for din din!

Diane: I'm wearing a Dress from Platinum Shopping Mall, Belt & Shoes from H&M, and Necklace from Swarorvski.

And as an added bonus, here's some more solid color inspo for you!
